1+1=3! Part 1 – We Are Pregnant!

Sunshine and I have been trying for a baby about 5 months after we got married. However, our dreams only came true about 1 year 3 months later after we started trying. As per the past few months over the 1+ year, Sunshine and I tried for a baby during my fertile period, this time round, in Jun 2019.

During the so-called “two weeks wait” as used by ladies undergoing IVF treatment:

Unlike other ladies who would experience a ton of symptoms when they got pregnant in the initial 2-3 weeks, I did not feel anything different – there was no implantation cramps or bleeding, no nausea or vomiting, no sore breasts, no extreme tiredness/sleepiness etc. As I had just tendered my resignation the previous month and that I previously had an episode where my menses was delayed for slightly more than a month for no apparent reason, I thought it was stress caused by my boss to complete my outstanding work before I leave that caused me to miss my menses. The fact that I could be pregnant did not cross our minds at all since it was afterall, not a very good time to be pregnant when I was in the midst of switching over to a new job and even had alcohol at a wedding dinner banquet (nevertheless, we just tried baby-making as per normal as well. It did not work for the past 1+ year and we did not expect it to be any different this time. Rather, we had the mentality that if it comes, it comes). After missing my menses for a week though, I was very tempted to do a pregnancy test. However, as I still did not feel any different and was still stressed at work, Sunshine convinced me to wait for another week before testing. He did not want to keep his hopes high and was hoping that my menses would come before I test so that I would not feel disappointed again.

How we suspected:

At about the 10th day after missing my period, Sunshine complained that I was very hot and gave up hugging me to sleep at night. Previously, as I was always at a cooler temperature than him, he would hug me until I squirm out when I was about to fall asleep. After he pointed that out, I realised over the next few nights that I indeed felt hotter than usual. I knew that it was not due to the weather as my room was still cooling but I would need to toss and turn every few minutes for comfort as my bed was being heated up by my body heat. Suddenly, Sunshine felt cooler than I was and it was then my turn to want to hug him for comfort. Haha. I had earlier read that pregnant women’s body temperature would be higher than a non-pregnant woman and this only symptom gave me huge hopes. I began to wonder and dream if I was indeed pregnant. As usual, not wanting to keep my hopes too high, Sunshine brushed me off and asked me to wait till I miss my period for at least after 2 weeks.

A positive result:

I managed to convince Sunshine to let me test on the 14th day of missing my menses. I chose to test on 20 Jul 2019 (Saturday) for my convenience to visit a polyclinic for a referral to KKH for antenatal care in case I was pregnant. Like the previous times when I tested, I was very nervous and only slept lightly the night before. This time round, I woke up at my usual 5+am to pee and tested. Sunshine was also very nervous as he woke up by himself despite being a heavy sleeper when I woke up to pee. As I had already missed my menses for 2 weeks, the result came out very quickly and strongly (ie. not a faint line). There was no doubt that I was pregnant! Omg! Unlike some others who tested a few times to make sure that they were indeed seeing a positive line, I had zero doubts and did not felt the need to double check as the result was very clear! I went back to the room and asked Sunshine to come see the result for himself. He later told me that he already guessed the result based on my reaction. Lol. I was wondering if I should give him a surprise by pretending that it was a negative result but placing the positive test kit by his bedside for him to realise it by himself when he woke up naturally few hours later (at least after 9am). However, he assured me that he would totally miss the kit if I were to just place it there as he would be in a zombie mode for the first few minutes whenever he wakes up. =.=” We were too wide awake by then to go back to sleep and as my tummy was rumbling then at 6+am, we ordered Macs for breakfast and started our journey of becoming parents… (Sunshine started to google about maternity hospitals and costs of raising a baby etc. Lol).

Part 1 Positive result
Can you see the dark lines? I feel as though our baby is sending a very strong signal to us about its presence! ^.^
