2019 Status of POEMS Share Builder Plan

This is an update to the post “2018 Status of POEMS Share Builder Plan“. In the previous post, I highlighted that POEMS offers an easy way to do DCA on a number of share counters, which they term as “Share Builder Plan (SBP)”. In essence, they just debit your bank account via GIRO every month to purchase the counters which you have indicated interest.

I have started the SBP in November 2015 and have maintained a regular monthly contribution of $1,000 to the SPDR Straits Times Index ETF (ES3). I have kept the records of my SBP’s progress in an excel file. The essentials are extracted in the table below.

Dec-1919002$62,003.53$3,742.76$391.01$5,005.22

I have increased my monthly contribution from $1,000 to $2,000 from Feb-19 to Aug-19 to decrease my cash researves and get more exposure to the market.

Overall, as of Dec-19, I have made a total (unrealised) profit of $5,005.22 after 50 months of investment.

This update was posted a bit late as real world events have drained most of my energy for the first half of the year. Currently, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, STI is battered and ES3 is trading at $2.601. My SBP portfolio has an unrealised loss of $6,314.35. However, as I have a long term investment horizon and am relatively confident that the market will (eventually) recover, I have increased my monthly contribution from $1,000 to $2,000. Hopefully, my next update on my SBP portfolio will be a good one.
