I have never been much of a fan of oats and I do not understand my siblings’ and friends’ love of oats. The oats my father prepares is always very sweet despite me asking him not to add any sugar/condensed milk at all to them. It is not that I like my oats plain and tasteless but I just dont like cooked oats in general (hence, even if my father does not add any sugar to the cooked oats, I would not have liked it too though it would be much healthier). However, when I had the opportunity to be exposed to an overnight oats making event organised by my enthusiastic neighbours, I wanted to join and mingle with them. It was at this event that I realised that I like oats! This is because of the following reasons:
- Easy and quick to prepare. This is perfect for my hurried weekday mornings.
- Simple, easy-to-obtain ingredients, depending on one’s own preference.
- Healthy and tasty!
Recipe with Pictures
Makes 3-4 portions
Ingredient list:
- 500ml of milk
- 5 tbsp of quick cook oats for each mason jar
- 1 mango
- 1 kiwi
- 1 banana
- 1 tsp of honey for each portion (optional)
Steps:
1. Microwave the milk for about 2min at medium-high heat until the milk is hot. (Settings would differ between different mircowave ovens)
2. Spoon about 4-5 tbsp of quick cook oats into each mason jar.
3. Pour the heated milk over the oats till the mason jar is about half filled. Stir well.
4. Dice the fruits and spoon them into each mason jar equally.
5. Add a tbsp of honey to each jar (optional).
6. Leave to cool and refrigerate overnight.
7. Enjoy your oats the next day! (I usually keep the oats for about a maximum of three days)
